Final Project Memo

My final project is Native Americans on campus today and the legal status of Native American nations in Pennsylvania or the lack thereof. I plan to interview Sid Jamieson on the topics, who can provide me with information on both topics as a member of the informal “Native American Working Group” on campus, a former lacrosse coach here, and knowledgeable about Native American history in the area. I would also like to interview Professors Courtney Burns, James Orr, or Michelle Husam, who are also members of the “Native American Working Group”. I hope to also find a student on campus who identifies as Native American to interview. Next, I plan to interview a faculty member from Lehigh University’s Native American Studies Center to learn more about Native American nations in Pennsylvania today. My goal for the project is to shed light on the experience of individuals who identify as Native American on both Bucknell’s campus and the tribes in Pennsylvania. Although more difficult, an interview with the Haudenosaunee leadership in New York State, such as chiefs Sid Hill and Orren Lyons, could give me perspective on the presence of Native Americans in the region today.
