Project Memo

The focus of my group’s project is Native American culture and history in the area. For the mid-semester project, I will be writing about Chief Shikellamy, who was the overseer of the entire Indian population of central Pennsylvania. For background information on Chief Shikellamy, I plan to use sources from the internet, particularly resources from Bucknell. Moreover, Sid Jamieson and Professor Faulls will come to speak to our class about Native American history in the area, which will help with my research. Additionally, I plan to use Professor Faull’s book for further relevant information. A field trip to the Northumberland Historical Society would also aid in potential multimedia aspects of the project. I will also use resources online to find relevant photographs and maps pertaining to the history of Chief Shikellamy, specifically maps of where he was chief and overseer, a photo of him, and more, depending on where my research takes me.

Although no plans are yet set in stone for the final project, there are a variety of topics for my group and I to choose from, which mainly focus on a more general overview of the Native American History in the area. Some topics of interest to me include the Haudenosaunee, the National Park Service Captain John Smith Chesapeake Bay Corridor/Trail, and the Bucknell-WVIA TV documentary on Native peoples of the Susquehanna. The Bucknell documentary would be particularly interesting as it was made by Bucknell students, and I’ll be able to learn about the work they did.
